Video Series: Relinking Avid Footage in Resolve

After posting my earlier 7-part series on Resolve/Avid dailies workflows, I got a lot of requests to show how to relink sequences after locking an edit. I put together this short 2-part series showing a simple relinking process – pulling a sequence out of Avid using an AAF and relinking to the master footage in Resolve. I’m hoping to do more videos in the future about this process, since it can vary so much depending on how your project was started (if original dailies were done in Resolve, Avid, or another platform), how well your metadata is organized (tape names, anyone?), and various other considerations.

Part 1: Best Practices for Locking a Cut

Always make sure to start with a clean, organized timeline. In this first video I talk about best practices when locking an edit – how to organize your locked cut sequence, collapse your tracks, finalize sequence timecode, create a good slate, and export a reference video.

Part 2: Relinking an Avid Sequence in Resolve via AAF

In this second video, I export the Avid sequence to Resolve using an AAF and relink to the original camera files. Always be sure to cross-check with your reference video!
